Update: CMS memo clarifies that the COVID-19 pandemic does not qualify for the disaster SEP 

On June 22, 2022, CMS issued a memo titled “Clarification of the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for Government Entity-Declared Disaster or Other Emergency.” 

The memo clarified that the COVID-19 pandemic does not currently qualify for the SEP for Government Entity-Declared Disaster or Other Emergency (disaster SEP); however, it does qualify for the Exceptional Circumstances SEP.

What you need to know:

  • As a result of this guidance, do not submit enrollments for clients impacted by COVID-19 using the disaster SEP. 
  • Going forward, any new enrollments submitted for this reason will be declined.

How you can assist those impacted by COVID-19

Individuals impacted by COVID-19 — who were unable to change plans while they were eligible for an election period — currently have access, on a case-by-case basis, to the SEP for Exceptional Circumstances

Sales agents/brokers are to advise these beneficiaries to contact 1-800-MEDICARE to request an Exceptional Circumstances SEP from CMS.

Starting today, ready-to-sell email notifications are discontinued. Instead, you can now check your ready-to-sell status using a new interactive tool on Producer World

The new interface shows individual agents and agency principals their ready-to-sell status by product, state, and year. It shows whether you’re ready to sell Aetna MA/MAPD and SilverScript PDP products and where. Click here to check out the tool.

As a valued partner, I want to give you advance notice of an upcoming change to our ready-to-sell notification process to help prepare you for any questions from your downline agents. Beginning June 29, all RTS email notifications will be discontinued.

After June 29, external brokers should refer to the Producer World RTS tool to actively verify their RTS status for 2022 and 2023 sales.

Please remind your agents:

  • A new RTS tool launched on Producer World on April 25 which allows individual agents and agency principals to actively verify their ready-to-sell status.
  • No downline data is represented in this tool.

2023 certification for Aetna MA/MAPD and SilverScript PDP begins June 29

Are you planning to sell individual Aetna MA/MAPD or SilverScript PDP products this AEP? Certification is the first step to becoming ready-to-sell, so plan to certify early!

You’ll be able to access 2023 certification options starting on June 29 at AetnaMedicareProducerCertification.com.

What’s new?

This year, there will be two certification options to choose from. 

AHIP Medicare training 

Certification option #1

  • This option includes AHIP Medicare training, along with several Aetna-specific training courses (available in English and Spanish).  
  • AHIP Medicare training is discounted if taken directly through AetnaMedicareProducerCertification.com.  
  • Cost: $125. 

Aetna/SilverScript-only training 

(New) Certification option #2

  • This new option allows you to bypass the AHIP Medicare training component and complete an alternative Aetna/SilverScript-only training instead, along with several Aetna-specific training courses (available in English and Spanish).  
  • This no-cost certification option is for agents who want to sell onlyAetna MA/MAPD or SilverScript PDP products, exclusively. 
  • Cost: $0.

What is Aetna’s Think Agent?

As of March 31st, 2022, Aetna has discontinued use of the Ascend platform and moved to an entirely new enrollment platform called “Think Agent”. Think Agent is a new electronic enrollment app that offers an optimized enrollment experience for you and your clients. You can use the website version on your laptop or computer, or you can download the app version to use Think Agent on any mobile device, including cell phones.

Think Agent Features include:

  • Full enrollment capabilities
  • Offline enrollment intake
  • Integrated MBI validation
  • Medicaid status check
  • Health Risk Assessment (HRA) available
  • E-kit (email) enrollment option
  • Scope of Appointment via email and text
  • Provider search
  • Drug cost estimator tool
  • Ready-to-sell status verification

How To Get Think Agent:

Step #1: Request access
Once you’re ready to sell, you can download the Think Agent app from the Apple and Google Play stores. It’s compatible with Android 5 or greater, version 11; or IOS 11.0 or greater, version 14.5. After downloading, click “Sign Up” to submit your request for a new user account.

Or, if you wish to use the desktop version instead, please visit https://app.thinkagent.com, and click “Sign Up.” You will be asked to provide your name, National Producer Number, and email address.

Step #2: Complete your registration
Please allow 24-48 hours for us to process your request. Next, you’ll receive two registration emails:

  • The first email will contain your username to log in to Think Agent.
  • The second email will contain your PIN. You’ll need it to finish setting up your account.

After receiving both registration emails:

  • Log in using your username.
  • Enter your PIN (note that the PIN is case sensitive) and click “Validate.”
  • Create a password.
  • Choose a security question from the drop-down,

type an answer, and click “Submit.”

Ascend was disabled on March 31st. If you have not downloaded the Think Agent application, you need to do so as soon as possible. There are still national training webinars ongoing, so be sure to get out to the training site, www.aetnamedicareagenttraining.com to RSVP for one that is convenient for you
