3 Very Important Product Updates

Guaranteed Issue Whole Life (GIWL) Reprice

Due to regulator required calculation method changes for policies dealing with nonforfeiture and cash values, Sons of Norway is instituting new prices for all our insurance policies that include “cash value”. Our Guaranteed Issue Whole Life (GIWL) product is first on the docket. 

NEW GIWL pricing* will go into effect on December 8, 2021. See the chart below for more clarification on what you need to do to ensure your policy is enacted under the pricing you discussed with your client:

What Does This Mean?

  • As of December 8, 2021, Sons of Norway’s GIWL product will have new pricing*.
  • If an application was received prior to 12/8/21 and is scheduled to issue between 12/8 & 12/31, that certificate will receive the old pricing as stated to the client. No action is needed.
  • Due to the required effective date of the rule changes, the old pricing is not available after 12/31/21. If an application is received prior to 12/8 but is not scheduled to issue until after 12/31, a new application is required that outlines the new pricing (you can request an amended issue date prior to 1/1).
  • Our Quoting and E-application system, LifeBase, will be updated and utilize the new pricing on 12/8/21, so no “old pricing” applications should be submitted after 12/8.
  • A reminder communication with the updated rates will be sent in December, prior to 12/8.
  • For Montana Only – All applications will be under the old unisex rates through 12/31/21, beginning 1/1/22 all applications will no longer be unisex and the “new rates” will apply. Lifebase will be updated accordingly.  
  • *For California, Florida, & South Dakota – All applications will be under the old pricing/application through 12/31/21 awaiting approval in those jurisdictions. Separate communication(s) will be shared on the status for these locations with further instructions if necessary.   

Sunsetting UL & SPWL

To ensure our shelf space has room for products that are meaningful for you and your clients, Sons of Norway will be sunsetting our Universal Life and Fully Underwritten Single Premium Whole Life as of December 31, 2021. To ensure there is enough time for execution, applications for these two products need to be received, in good order, by December 15, 2021, so they have the best chance to be issued before December 31, 2021.

Heads Up On Other Product Changes

As we mentioned, the regulatory required calculation changes affect all certificates (policies) with cash value. Be on the lookout for an outline of the changes to our Simplified Issue suite, and fully underwritten whole life products that will take effect January 1, 2022.

In the past few years, there have been increasing lawsuits and threats of litigation against insurance carriers based on alleged violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”) and other related laws by agents marketing their policies. All agents are required to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the solicitation of our insurance products. This includes the TCPA, national and state Do-Not-Call (“DNC”) list prohibitions, the Truth in Caller ID Act, and other state and federal laws prohibiting or restricting telemarketing activities (collectively, the “TeleMarketing Laws”).

As an independent contractor, it is your responsibility to ensure that you and those who work with you (including lead generators) are in compliance with the Telemarketing Laws to the extent you or they engage in telemarketing activities in which a Prosperity Life Group company, service, or product might be mentioned or offered. A copy of Prosperity Life Group’s Policy Statement as to Telemarketing Law compliance may be found on the Agent Portal under General Information, Training & Regulations, “Compliance with the TCPA and Do Not Call List.”

As a condition of continuing to do business with us, we are now requiring your agreement to the terms of a TeleMarketing Compliance Agreement, which documents your agreement to the following understandings and expectations: (1) you will fully comply with the TeleMarketing Laws; (2) you are responsible for compliance by all employees, contractors or subagents working in your call center or whom you otherwise control, including any third-party lead generators (“representatives”); and (3) you will defend, indemnify, and hold the company and its affiliates harmless against any claim or demand arising from an alleged violation of the Telemarketing Laws by you or your representatives.

If you have not already signed this Agreement as part of the onboarding process, you will be directed to a link to review and consent to e-sign this agreement when you log in to the Agent Portal. You may also receive an e-mail with a link to the same. If we have not received your consent promptly after request, we reserve the right to suspend your credentials until this outstanding requirement is fulfilled. Failure to agree to the terms of the TeleMarketing Compliance Agreement may ultimately lead to termination of your contract or rejection of your pending appointment request with us.

You are responsible for familiarizing yourself with the requirements of the TeleMarketing Laws and how they impact your business. These laws cover all telemarketing activities (including calls, texts, call transfers, acceptance of call transfers, etc.). Compliance is required even when a solicitation is made in response to an incoming call stemming from a third-party-generated lead. You are responsible for ensuring that any lead generators you use are in compliance with all applicable Telemarketing Laws before using their leads to solicit our products.

The TCPA is the primary federal law that applies to such activities. It contains numerous restrictions on when, where, how, and to whom telemarketing calls may be placed. The TCPA is complex. If you are unfamiliar with its requirements, consult an attorney. You can also find general information on the Federal Communications Commission consumer website: https://www.fcc.gov/tags/telephone-consumer-protection-act-tcpa. Please be aware that some states have additional consumer protections as well as separate Do Not Call lists.

Changes Effective October 2nd

Final Expense: Higher Cash Values

Transamerica’s Final Expense Solutions Portfolio now has higher guaranteed cash values at the same cost-effective rates.

In response to the regulatory changes, we’re increasing cash values on our Immediate Solution, 10-Pay Solution, and Easy Solution effective October 2, 2021.

Final Expense Transition Details

New Applications:

  • All final expense applications submitted on or after October 2, 2021, will include cash value updates.

In-Flight Final Expense Applications:

  • Application received on or before October 1, 2021
  • Cases will issue with previous cash values
  • Need to be placed in force on or before December 31, 2021

Trendsetter® LB: New Minimum Issue Age for Band 1

Effective October 2, 2021, the minimum issue age for Trendsetter LB band 1 ($25,000–$99,999) will increase from age 18 to age 23. This means proposed insureds must be 23 years or older for a Trendsetter LB policy with a face amount less than $100,000.

Trendsetter LB Transition Details

New Applications:

  • All applications submitted on or after October 2, 2021, require minimum issue age 23 for Trendsetter LB band 1 ($25,000–$99,999).

In-Flight Trendsetter LB Band 1 Applications for Issue Ages 18 to 22:

  • Applications received at Transamerica on or before October 1
  • Cases will issue with previous minimum issue age 18
  • Cases must be placed in force on or before December 31, 2021
